On April 23rd, 2025, the 56th Board of Governors meeting of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) was held in Kunming. Hosted by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (KIB/CAS), the event attracted experts, scholars, and representatives from relevant institutions across multiple countries and regions to discuss cooperation and innovation in the field of sustainable mountain development.

Associate Professor Bingwei Tian from the Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR) of Sichuan University was invited to participate in the ICIMOD "China Partner Day" event and delivered a keynote report.
At the event, under the title "National Fund Projects and International Platform Building: Scientific Cooperation and Project Practices with ICIMOD", Associate Professor Bingwei Tian shared with the participants his recent disaster management research and exchange work he conducted in Nepal, and also introduced the cross-border disaster research projects he has both led and participated in. He provided a detailed review of the "Dachuan Vision" activities he led over the past three years, involving the students in Nepal, as well as their experience in field investigations. He also showcased the VR disaster education corner jointly established at the ICIMOD Mountain Livelihoods Laboratory (MLL) and the disaster education training conducted, along with the series of academic exchange activities organized in collaboration with institutions such as the Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Tribhuvan University (TU), and ICIMOD.

These undertakings not only demonstrate the active contributions and show the commitment of IDMR’s faculty and students in the fields of disaster education and reduction, but also promote impactful cooperation between China and Nepal in disaster management.
On top of that, Assoc. Professor Bingwei’s participation in the meeting further strengthened the cooperation between IDMR and ICIMOD. In the future, IDMR will continue to maintain close ties with ICIMOD to advance cooperation and research in disaster education and youth talent cultivation within the Himalayan region, and jointly contribute to regional sustainable development and resilienc
