February 20, 2025 – Prof. Attaullah Shah, Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University (KIU), Pakistan, visited the IDMR and attended an academic exchange symposium. Dean Prof. Di Baofeng extended a warm welcome to Prof. Shah's delegation, expressing aspirations to strengthen collaboration in talent cultivation and scientific research. Vice Dean Prof. Lu Yi elaborated on the IDMR's achievements in international cooperation and social services. The meeting was attended by Prof. Tian Bingwei (Director of Urban Safety and Health Management Department), Prof. Niu Zhipan (Director of Disaster Prevention Engineering Department), and faculty representatives.

During the symposium, Prof. Shah highlighted KIU's strategic location along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the Belt and Road Initiative. He presented the university's climate education research achievements, particularly its localized climate mitigation practices developed through collaborations with vulnerable communities. As Chair of the Himalayan Universities Consortium (HUC) Steering Committee, Prof. Shah outlined the consortium's development roadmap and existing partnerships with Chinese universities. He commended the IDMR's leadership in HUC's Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Resilience Working Group, expressing anticipation for expanded collaboration.


The discussion subsequently focused on climate change adaptation and disaster management. Both parties reached consensus on advancing cooperation through: Joint research programs, Academic personnel exchanges, Co-hosted international conferences, and Faculty and student mobility initiatives.
