Announcement of Faculty Positions
The Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR) at Sichuan University, in Chengdu, China, invites applications for numerous faculty positions to begin as early as November 2018 or at a mutually agreed date thereafter. Appointments will span the ranks of post-doctoral associate, associate professor and full professor. We will consider exceptional candidates in all areas relevant to the Institute, but areas of particular interest include the following:
· Earthquake engineering, including seismic design and vibration control
· Water-related disasters, including floods and droughts
· Ecological approaches to disaster risk reduction and response
· Disaster and emergency medicine
· Disaster nursing
· Disaster epidemiology and biostatistics
· Disaster mental health
· Disaster information systems and data science
· Disaster risk reduction and resilient urban planning
· Disaster social work; social and behavioral dimensions of disasters
· Disaster governance, financing and public policy
· Disaster and emergency management
IDMR is an interdisciplinary and highly internationalized research and educational institute, founded as a consequence of the Wenchuan Earthquake of May 12, 2008. As an interdisciplinary research institute located in a major comprehensive research university, we bring together faculty and students from a broad spectrum of fields to address disaster-related challenges. As such, applications from excellent candidates, particularly at the senior level, in disaster-related topics not mentioned above are also encouraged. In the next two years we expect to hire approximately 20 new faculty members.
Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in original research and strong fundamental knowledge in a core area. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, developing novel disaster-related curriculum, conducting original scholarly research, and supervision of student research. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. by the beginning of employment.
The successful candidates shall be provided with a competitive package of remuneration based on their qualifications, experience and the university regulations. Competitive start-up packages will also be provided.
