The Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR), located at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, invites applications for numerous faculty positions to begin September 2022 or at a mutually agreed date thereafter. Appointments will span the ranks of post-doctoral associate, associate professor and full professor. We will consider exceptional candidates in all areas relevant to the Institute, but we are especially looking for candidates with expertise in the following areas:
• Water-related hazards, and geohazards (including earthquakes, landslides, debris flow, etc)
• Disaster knowledge and information systems, including big data for disaster risk reduction and response
• Integrated urban and rural planning for disaster risk-reduction
• Disaster-related public health research.
• Design of disaster-resilient infrastructure
• Post-disaster environmental management
• Disaster-related social sciences, including foci on transboundary cooperation, on engagement of local communities and on disaster education.
As an interdisciplinary research institute in a major comprehensive research university, our goal is to strengthen our work across a broad spectrum of disaster-related challenges. As such, applications from excellent candidates, particularly at the senior level, in other disaster-related topics are strongly encouraged. In the next year we expect to hire at least 8 new faculty members.
Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in original research and strong fundamental knowledge in a core area. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, developing course materials, student advising, conducting original scholarly research, and supervision of student research. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. by the beginning of employment.
The successful candidates shall be provided with a competitive international package of remuneration based on their qualifications, experience and the university regulations.
