From June 23 to 28, 2024, Assistant Researcher Li Zhou was invited to attend the 21st Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
As a co-convener of the session HS51 "Understanding of Hydrometeorologic Extremes Under a Warming Climate: Observations and Future Projections," Dr. Zhou delivered two speeches: "Evaluations of Different Precipitation Products' Performances and Their Effectiveness in Disaster Warning Across the Tibetan Plateau" and "Unravelling and Improving the Potential of Global Discharge Reanalysis Dataset in Streamflow Estimation in Ungauged Basins." In his presentations, Dr. Zhou introduced the effectiveness of various precipitation products over the Tibetan Plateau and their applications in disaster warning, revealing the potential of global reanalysis runoff data in hydrological simulations, providing important insights for precipitation-flood forecasting in data-scarce basins. His reports sparked great interest among the attendees, and his research findings and innovations received recognition from experts in the field.
Established in 2003, AOGS is a significant academic organization in the field of Earth sciences in the Asia-Oceania region, corresponding to the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the European Geosciences Union (EGU). The organization's mission is to build a platform for exchange and cooperation in the Earth sciences within the Asia-Oceania region, promoting the development of Earth sciences.
Through this conference, Dr. Zhou engaged in academic exchanges with experts and scholars from numerous domestic and international research institutions, actively communicating potential cooperation directions. In the future, the IDMR will continue to actively engage in domestic and international exchanges and cooperation, playing an important role in research related to water disasters.
