Associate Professor Tian Bingwei from IDMR Was Invited to Participate in the 2nd International Symposium on Geo - Hazards Perception, Cognition and Prediction and Present a Presentation

From October 25th to 28th, 2024, the 2nd International Symposium on Geo - Hazards Perception, Cognition and Prediction, along with the 8th International Workshop for Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service, was successfully convened in Changsha, Hunan, China. This event gathered experts and scholars from diverse fields such as disaster science, geography, geology, meteorology, and disaster management across multiple countries, as well as representatives from international organizations like UNESCO. The focus was on discussing the latest research outcomes regarding geo-hazards and effective strategies for disaster prevention and mitigation.

IDMR's Associate Professor Tian Bingwei was invited. He presented a Presentation titled "International Disaster Risk Reduction Education Practice - From Innovation Class to Micro Major", introducing IDMR's innovative measures and educational practices in talent cultivation internationalization and international disaster reduction talent development. The Presentation detailed an innovative path in international disaster reduction education. It began with the background and aims of the International Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management Innovation Class, highlighting the significance of interdisciplinary education for cultivating composite disaster reduction talents. Subsequently, it elaborated on the micro - major concept and its application, demonstrating how the subdivided fields of the "International Disaster Reduction and Intelligent Emergency" micro - major could deepen students' professional knowledge and skills. Additionally, cases of cooperation with renowned international organizations were shared, along with their contributions to academic exchanges and resource sharing.

In the Presentation's conclusion, Associate Professor Tian Bingwei envisioned future trends in international disaster reduction education, stressing the importance of continuous innovation and international cooperation. He noted that with global climate change and frequent natural disasters, the demand for disaster reduction talents is growing globally. Thus, educational institutions must update course content and strengthen practical teaching to cultivate more professionals with international outlooks and practical capabilities.

Through this presentation, participants gained a deeper understanding of IDMR's innovative practices in international disaster reduction education and highly appraised its contributions. After the event, many experts and scholars expressed a willingness to establish closer cooperation with IDMR for jointly promoting the development of international disaster reduction education.
