ABSTRACT
This presentation will apply data analysis techniques to analyze the fire records provided by the Department of Fire and Rescue New SouthWales. Mitigation measures are proposed to reduce the occurrence of accidental fire. It demonstrates the application of big data analysis to reveal the underlying problems of a system. The second part of this presentation is the development of mesoscopic evacuation model. Traditional macroscopic models using network approach to determine the evacuation time. It is fast in computation but unable to provide details of flow patterns and identify the bottleneck areas of the layout. Microscopic models simulate the dynamics of each evacuees and also their interactions. The dynamic flow the evacuees can be visualized on the layout, but the models require lengthy computational time and extensive computer resources. A mesoscopic model is developed based on cellular automata approach. Instead of simulating the movement of individuals, this model directly calculates the density flow of evacuees which can accelerate the computation and also provide details of the evacuation pattern in bottleneck areas.
